Invisible Disability
An invisible disability is something that others do not see. It is a personal and emotional characteristic that does not require aids to visually inform people of the disability. It is understandable to think that feeling different emotions towards people with a disability is unacceptable, we were brought up to automatically question our feelings towards disability, whether its an acceptance or a ridicule. The medical model of disability focuses on curing something viewed as broken, people with disabilities are perceived as defective, which leads physicians and medical scientists to be ever seeking a solution where, in fact, such a solution is implausible. Through my portraits I aim to highlight the truth about Autism. To portray the innocence and fun loving nature of each child I have come to know. I ask you to question your preconceptions of an invisible disability, disregarding consideration for media generated opinions or the judgment of others. Autism will not change, but your opinion and understanding can. This is Autism and this is how it looks. “You laugh because I am different, I laugh because you are all the same.” J Davis
